My first competitive run, in September 2010
There I am, all smiles and waving at the camera in my XLP t-shirt, on my first competitive run- little did I know it was the start of something more..
Running started as a way to get fit and to raise some money for some friends of mine who started this great charity that aims to serve communities by meeting the social, educational and behavioural needs of young people, and empowering them to make wise lifestyle choices and to realise their potential.
Three years and few more races later, and I made a new year’s resolution to run 12 races, in 12 different cities, over 12 months. Beyond that, I didn’t put a lot more thought into it.
I love travelling, I love running and I also love my job- running away for the weekend and getting back to work on Monday let’s me do all three:
- I get away somewhere new every month
- I have motivation for training runs in the cold/dark/rain/after work/when I’d rather be having a long lie at the weekend
- I can keep my job- which rather helps to fund the whole mad idea!
And as a way of recording a journal, posting photos, keeping in touch with people I meet, inspiring friends and allowing people (mildly alarmed parents) to keep tabs on me, I’ve decided to blog my 2014 of running races, in different places.
