I started this blog after I made a new year’s resolution to run 12 races, in 12 different cities, over 12 months in 2014. This blog is a way of recording a journal, posting photos, keeping in touch with people I meet, inspiring friends and allowing people (predominantly my mildly alarmed parents) to keep tabs on me.
As a runner, I remain a committed plodder. I don’t run for speed and I try to have minimal awareness of how far I’ve run and how long it has taken me. I don’t have a Garmin, I rarely mapmyruns and I often run with a travelcard in my pocket in case I bottle it halfway through a long run- though have only resorted to using it once, after a particularly low moment weeping on a kerb in Chelsea, sixteen miles into the intended eighteenish that would get me back to my front door.
I run for all those nice things that people talk about- clearing my head, getting into nature and reducing my stress levels. I tried a running club once, but couldn’t hack the pressure of keeping up with the fast ones. Talking about hill sprints, time-trials and PBs brings me out in a cold sweat and I’m still not sure what a fartlek is. I run mostly because I love feeling the strength of my legs as they carry me mile after mile.
Other than being a runner, I live in London, work as a nurse, listen to Radio 4/Taylor Swift a lot and enjoy a wee dram of whisky in the evening. I’m a twin to one, daughter to two and auntie to three.
